Market Square Meal

Performing in the Scruffy City Comedy Festival on Saturday gave me an opportunity to try another recently opened restaurant in downtown Knoxville. My friend David Lauver attended the Einstein Simplified show and then asked if I wanted to join him for dinner. We walked a few steps across Market Square to a new restaurant called Not Watson’s Kitchen + Bar.

David had a portobella sandwich. The mushroom is topped with brie cheese and roasted red pepper. I ordered the Ole Smoky burger because I can’t resist burgers topped with onion rings. The onion ring was as thick as the burger.

As we ate, David told me his memories of Watson’s department store. The restaurant is in the old Watson’s building and gets its name from the owner’s childhood trips to the store.

David and I also chatted about the Front Page Follies. He is the main songwriter for the show and already has a few ideas for songs and topics to lampoon in 2015.
