Figsgiving

There are many things for which I am thankful this year. One of them is the simple joy of eating figs. I asked my wife to buy some dried figs that we could enjoy while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In addition to the Golden Figs, she bought a variety of cheeses to accompany them. Smoked gouda and havarti tasted good but feta cheese worked best. The strong taste of the feta alternated in my mouth with the sweetness of the fig.

My wife surprised me by also buying a fig almond cake, which is similar to a fruit cake. As far as I can tell, it contained only pressed figs and almonds. The sales clerk at Publix told my wife to try putting feta on top of a piece of the cake. It does taste good with cheese but I like it plain too.
