A typo on a website called Hitfix gave me pause. Somehow, the page turned up at the top of the Google search results when I looked for information about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Hitfix erroneously wrote: “Fans of the balloons will be happy to note that this year will feature the last group of new balloons ever.” It should have said that the 2014 parade will feature the largest group of new balloons ever.
In hindsight, my momentary panic was unnecessary. Why would a fan of the balloons, such as myself, be happy about the last group of new balloons? I am, of course, delighted about the largest group of new balloons.
The six new balloons are Paddington, Pikachu, the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, Skylanders Eruptor, and Thomas the Tank Engine. All but the Power Ranger are shown on the poster. I admit that I had not previously heard of the “lava-spewing Skylanders Eruptor.” The returning balloons include Adventure Time with Finn & Jake, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, the Elf on the Shelf, Hello Kitty, Papa Smurf, Ronald McDonald, Snoopy and Woodstock, Spider-Man, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Toothless of How to Train Your Dragon.
