Show business legends like Bob Hope and Danny Kaye always impressed me with their ability to do it all: sing, dance, act, tell jokes, etc. I have trouble carrying a tune and moving my feet to the beat.
In order to grow, you have to leave your comfort zone. I’ve read variations of that sentence many times and I believe it to be true. I had to leave my comfort zone to try stand-up comedy and to try performing in a ballet. Both experiences were great.
Right now, I feel that I am in way over my head attempting to sing and dance. I was invited to join the cast of the Front Page Follies, a fundraiser for the scholarships offered by the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists. The parody songs in this year’s Follies are very funny. They satirize news and sports stories from the past year.
This year’s Front Page Follies will take place on July 19 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The honoree is Robin Wilhoit of WBIR-TV. At Monday’s practice, we started learning the choreography for the opening number, which is about Robin. I was the guy going left when everyone else went right.
