Game for the Board

The election results are in. I am now an at-large member of the Board of Directors of the East Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

I was contacted a couple of months ago by Alan Carmichael and Jack Lail, who thought I would be a good candidate for the board. I was put on the slate of nominees, which was approved by the membership.

Shortly after my nomination but before the election, I was invited to join the cast of The Front Page Follies, which is ETSPJ’s main fundraiser. The evening includes cocktails, live and silent auctions, dinner and a musical revue that spoofs local newsmakers. This year’s event will be held Saturday, July 19 at the Knoxville Convention Center. Proceeds from ticket sales are used to fund scholarships for journalism students at the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State. You can click here to buy tickets online.

After the first couple of rehearsals, I thought it would be a good idea to ask my wife to join the cast too. She gets smiles from the director for learning the music and choreography quickly. I also thought she could give me some remedial help with the singing and dancing.
