Fr. David Boettner and Fr. Joe Reed have gotten a lot of media attention lately. On Monday, they were on the news after Fr. David saved a man’s life by performing CPR. Today, they were on the news talking about Ash Wednesday.

The same two priests were heard almost hourly on WNOX yesterday and today. The Cathedral bought an advertising schedule to promote confessions on Ash Wednesday.

I went to the noon Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The parking lot was packed. Some people parked on the grass. I found a parking spot next door at the Chancery. Fr. David was the first person I saw when I walked into the narthex. I joked that full parking lot was because he bought so many commercials. Standing just beyond Fr. David were Deacon Jim Lawson and Bishop Richard Stika, who was the main celebrant of the Mass.

The Sacred Heart Parish Council of Catholic Women serves a free lunch on Lenten Wednesdays after the noon Mass. Obviously they served meat-free foods such as tuna salad, egg salad and pimento cheese sandwiches today. They also had an assortment of soups and salads. I bypassed the dessert table because I gave up sweets again this year. I did, however, take a picture of the treats.

Speaking of Twitter pictures, I also responded to the Cathedral’s request for “ash selfies.”
