According to the Facebook page for Silent Heroes of the Cold War, construction will begin next month on the long-awaited monument to 14 men who died in a plane crash on November 17, 1955. The plane was flying from Burbank to Area 51 when it crashed into Mount Charleston, near Las Vegas. An article in today’s Las Vegas Review-Journal chronicles the 15-year effort to get the memorial built.
The men who died were working on the top-secret U2 spy plane project. One of the men was my uncle, Terry O’Donnell. My cousin, Captain Terry Hatton, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11, was named after our Uncle Terry.
