On the Survivor: Blood vs. Water reunion show last night, Tina Wesson and Katie Collins didn’t get much airtime, They used what time they had to urge viewers to wear their seatbelts and to donate to the Red Cross. Tina’s son and Katie’s brother, Taylor Lee Collins, was killed in a car crash on December 3. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
On the show, Katie asked those who wish to honor Taylor’s memory to donate to the Red Cross instead of sending flowers or other gifts. The Red Cross donations can be designated to the Typhoon Appeal to help people in the Philippines who were affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Survivor: Blood vs. Water was filmed in the Philippine province of Cagayan.
My wife and I were rooting for Tina throughout the season. The Knoxville native was a celebrity guest on my first broadcast after moving to Tennessee. During the finale, Tina won a challenge on Redemption Island that put her back in the game. She then survived a tribal council vote to make it to the final four. Tina wasn’t so lucky in the next tribal council. She was voted out and did not make the final three.
