Google impressed me today with their Google Cultural Institute. In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Gettysburg Address, they posted a link to their digital exhibits about the historic speech. It was my first experience with the GCI.

My wife and I finally made it to Gettysburg during our vacation this past summer. We had intended to visit in 2009 but a syncope got in the way. As it turned out, we were there in July while they were still commemorating the sesquicentennial of the battle. It also turns out that sesquicentennial is one of my favorite words.

My interest in Gettysburg was also stirred a year ago when I heard the world premiere of John Purifoy’s beautiful Chronicles of Blue and Gray performed by the Knoxville Choral Society at the Tennessee Theatre. Members of the Choral Society, including my wife, will perform the work again on June 8, 2014 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
