On Father’s Day, I enjoyed a nice long Google Hangout with my kids. During the video chat, my daughter unveiled the gift she purchased for me. It’s a beautiful General Electric radio from the mid 1950s. A quick Google search leads me to believe that its model number is 429.
She saw it in an antique store in Saugteries, New York, a year or two ago. She saw it again this year and decided that it must have been a sign that she should buy it.
When she plugged it in and turned it on, she discovered that it still worked and that the dial lit up. I imagine that it served its previous owner well. I wonder if they could pick up any of the same New York City radio stations that I listened to as a child. I loved listening to Bob & Ray and Jean Shepherd on WOR.
