Alex Notte was surrounded by cameras on prom night. His parents invited my wife and me to a pre-prom reception at their home as he awaited the arrival of his famous date, LPGA star Belén Mozo. In addition to family and friends, there was a photographer from the East Tennessee Catholic and one from the Knoxville News Sentinel.
The owner of Regal Carriages offered to drive Alex and Belén in his classic Rolls Royce. A hairstylist named Aaron White contacted me and offered to give Belén an updo. Alex and Belén went to dinner at Gettysvue Country Club before heading off to the Bearden High School prom. Fr. Michael Woods stopped by Gettysvue to give them a blessing at dinner.
Earlier in the day, Alex and Belén played one hole of golf before Belén held an exhibition to benefit Special Olympics. Alex and his family hope to draw attention to the need for a Special Olympics golf program in our area. Alex’s coach, Louise Ball, told me that Alex crushed a 210-yard, perfectly straight drive from the tee and that Belén was very impressed.
