One of the responsibilities of the FBI Knoxville Citizens Academy Alumni Association is to provide snacks for the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Run. Last year we got the snacks from a hodgepodge of retailers and individuals. This year, I decided to ask one sponsor to provide everything we needed.
I knew that Tony Scott and Patty Metheny at Sam’s Club were interested in opportunities for community involvement. I approached them with a big request. Would they donate enough bananas, bagels, trail mix and bottled water for over 400 runners? They agreed and had it ready for pick up on Friday afternoon. Patty told me that Sara Lee provided the bagels as a donation.
FBIKCAAA member Joe Karl picked up the food from Sam’s Club on Friday and delivered it to Volunteer Landing at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday. The snacks filled the bed of his pickup truck. Members Samer Shatara, Jan Maskarinec, Catherine Luther helped Joe and me unload the truck. Stephanie Beecken and Elizabeth Phillips, along with the others, helped prepare and serve the food.
I was very happy with the way everything worked out. The food was great and the FBIKCAAA team did a terrific job.
