Whoop It Up

Valerie Day of Haven House in Maryville asked me to host their “My Funny Valentine” fundraiser at the Capitol Theatre again this year. Last year, members of Einstein Simplified did an improv show. This year, I will be the game show host for a Blount County version of “The Newlywed Game.” The questions were compiled by Brandy Pearl, wife of former UT basketball coach Bruce Pearl. Brandy is an outspoken advocate for abuse victims.

Valerie and I recorded a public affairs interview that aired this morning. There were several highlights that make it worth a listen. Valerie described how to look for signs of emotional abuse. She also described a program by high school and college coaches to educate their players on breaking the cycle of abuse. Toward the end of the show, we talked about the increasing problem of human trafficking.

The radio show is available as a podcast at the link below. For tickets to “My Funny Valentine,” call Haven House’s office¬†on Monday before the event sells out.
