If you gave a pint of blood once every 56 days, you could donate six times in a year at most. I try to give blood once or twice a year, usually when Medic Regional Blood Center offered a special premium such as a pint of ice cream or a free movie ticket.
During 2012, I responded to a couple of requests for additional donations. There were babies at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital who needed blood that was both my type and CMV negative. Apparently those extra pints made me a “super donor” for 2012.
I was happy to receive a postcard from Medic that said I had given blood four times during the year. On my next visit, I can get a special long-sleeve t-shirt. There’s still plenty of time left for you (and me) to be super donors in 2013.
