The cycling champion was in town for the third annual Tour de Frederick, which promised its participants the opportunity to “ride for three days alongside America’s first and friendliest Tour de France winner.”

Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Race on August 18, 2012 The High Wheel Race took place on Saturday, which was coincidentally the day I would be arriving in Maryland to visit my son. I read about the event on the Frederick Tourism website and made plans to attend.  All I had to do was to complete my 485-mile drive before the race started at 4:30 p.m. When I texted a photo of the race to my wife, she replied: “Yay, you made it!”

He had a mustache and clothing that could have come from the late-19 century.

    I thought of you on Sunday when I watched “Little Lord Fauntleroy” while eating dinner. At the beginning of the movie, Dearest (his mother) gives him such a bicycle and there are a couple of scenes showing how he climbs onto it. I thought, “I would never have been able to ride one of those!”
