Power of Choice

The midnight attack upon movie-goers in Colorado has caused many of my Facebook friends to express their opinion about guns. My thoughts went not to firearms, but to faith.

The 12 who died and the 58 who were injured are in my thoughts and prayers. The act of evil by the shooter has to make you wonder why anyone would inflict such terrible pain and suffering on the victims and their families. I was reminded of a homily from July 8. One of my favorite preachers, Fr. Gary Braun, spoke about how God gave us the power to reject Him.

I thought I was the only one in ETN who knows Father Gary! What a nice man – I remember him fondly from my days at Wash U in the 90’s.

Outstanding! Thanks to the Internet, my family and I can watch Fr. Gary’s homilies any time. We first met him four years ago, at the urging of Fr. Ragan Schriver of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee. If you keep digging through my blog archives, you’ll find a few more posts about Fr. Gary.
