For the first time since 2006, I wasn’t traveling or working on the Fourth of July. My wife and I were able to attend a picnic at Panther Creek State Park with some friends who had invited us to join them there for the past couple of years.
On the way home, I got a message from WATE’s Erica Estep asking permission to use a video of mine in her news story about safety precautions for the downtown fireworks display. The fireworks were broadcast live on WBIR as part of the Festival on the Fourth.
During their concert that preceded the fireworks, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra played “Energy Express” from the 1982 World’s Fair. In the episode of The Weekly Fix that airs at 11:00 a.m. today on 10 News 2, I said having the symphony perform the piece adds some class. It’s still cheesy but it’s an upgrade from a block of Velveeta to a wheel of brie.
