Lights, Camera, Make It Up

“Whose Line Is It Anyway?” got me interested in comedy improv. My wife was a fan of the British version of the show before I got hooked. Before long, I started taking an improv class from the City of Burbank. Within two months of moving to Knoxville, I joined Einstein Simplified. My first performance with the group was June 25, 2002.

Naturally, I was happy to see promos on ABC for a new show called “Trust Us With Your Life.” starring several “Whose Line” favorites. It debuts on July 10. On each episode, a celebrity tells personal anecdotes which are then acted out by talented improvisers. The cast includes Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie and Jonathan Mangum as the main improvisers. Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops, Nicole Parker, Craig Cackowski, Josie Lawrence and David Armand are the guest performers.

A couple of years ago, Colin and Brad did a show at the Tennessee Theatre. I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to attend. Earlier this month, I learned that Colin and Brad have actually been to Knoxville a few times. Regal Entertainment Group, which is headquartered here, has hired them for corporate gigs and may do so again.

We have our 10th Annual Diocesan Scouting Retreat this weekend. We always come prepared with some games in case it rains and we are stuck under the canopy without access to our planned sports activities. Two of them are “Wacky Party Quirks” and “Scenes from a Hat.”

I hope you will say a prayer or two for the 30+ adults and youth who are going to be on our retreat this weekend!

That’s great! Maybe some of the kids will grow up to become members of Einstein Simplified!
