Slippery Richard

On the evening of my son’s graduation, we went to dinner at the home of my wife’s Aunt Margie. At the end of the evening, she presented my son with a gift for his new apartment.

Griesedieck Bros. ad reproduction Aunt Margie’s (and my wife’s) ancestors brewed Griesedieck Bros. beer in St. Louis. The brand has been making a comeback in recent years. Aunt Margie gave Frank Jr. a reproduction of a 1911 Griesedieck Bros. advertisement featuring a girl wearing hops as a corsage and in her hair. The image has the look and feel of a painting on canvas.

I’m trying to think of something to give my son for his apartment as a representation of my side of the family. It may involve a trip to my mother’s house to look for some memorabilia in the basement. My father had plenty of other clients during his public relations career but right now the one that keeps coming to mind is Bacardi Rum, which is celebrating its sesquicentennial with some pretty cool ads honoring its Cuban heritage.
