Christmas creep presents a dilemma for me each year. On the one hand, I think it’s too soon for Christmas decorations to be displayed in stores or outside homes. Yesterday, I drove by in slack-jawed amazement when I saw one of my neighbors setting up his elaborate North Pole themed yard display. On the other hand, I really like Christmas music at any time of year.
October and November are the best months for Christmas music fans. Almost every week brings the release of new holiday albums. Last week when Amazon.com offered a $2 credit in their MP3 store, I went straight to their Holiday Music department. I used the $2 toward the purchase of “A Very She & Him Christmas,” which is currently number one on their holiday bestseller list.
She & Him are Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. Zooey also stars in “New Girl” on Fox. I fell in love with Zooey’s voice when she sang “Baby It’s Cold Outside” in the movie “Elf.” On her new album, Zooey sings the other half of the duet. The majority of the songs are mellower than I normally prefer but they do fit her voice. “Sleigh Ride” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” are the most up-tempo numbers.
