Beatitudinal Adjustment

Fr. Christian Mathis told my family some interesting stories about his recent pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Many can be found on his blog, “Blessed is the Kingdom.” We had a chance to visit with him after the first of two Einstein Simplified shows at First Night Knoxville.

The Knoxville pilgrims visited Bethlehem, Nazareth and Jerusalem among other sites.  While wearing “regular” clothes, Fr. Christian saw two groups of similar religious items for sale. One collection was priced much higher than the other. When he asked the merchant, he was told that the more expensive items had been blessed by a priest. Fr. Christian told us they’re not supposed to sell blessed items for this very reason. I wondered if there was some way to reverse the process. Before the clergyman could answer, my son interjected, “you unbless it, you bought it!”
