Shoe In

St. Nicholas Day treats in my shoe - 2010 Some St. Nicholas Day treats were waiting in my shoe when I came downstairs this morning. One of the candy wrappers featured the Rankin/Bass version of Santa from the 1970 TV special, “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.”

beard and eyebrow makeup for Santa impersonators Another Santa item arrived in the mail this afternoon. I had enlisted the aid of my daughter to purchase some beard and eyebrow makeup. I will be impersonating Santa at a local church this coming weekend. The advice I found online suggested I buy a product called “snow white,” which is made by Ben Nye Makeup. I was psyched because I remembered Ben Nye’s name from the credits for “Batman.” When I called the company in Los Angeles, they said their nearest retailer to me was in Nashville. Fortunately, their products are also sold at Economy Party Supplies in Northern Virginia, where my daughter had purchased her zombie makeup for Halloween. I expected the eyebrow stick to look more like a glue stick and less like a popsicle stick.

Now I need to figure out what to use for padding. I could try to be the skinny Santa from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” or I could overeat. Twitter user Donna Free suggested that I get a pregnancy suit but I thought it would make me look like Tumor Claus.

I needed padding once and bought a huge (to me) sweatshirt, then put my bed pillows inside of it (front and back). The elastic waistband (along with a belt or tie if necessary) held the pillows in well for me… Good luck.
