The cover of the June issue of Storm Taylor’s One Eighty Magazine took on the look of a wanted poster when I photographed it against a wooden background. It’s funny to see my name on there along with Ace Frehley. Storm interviewed me for an article on page 9, right below one of his most popular regular features, “Sucks to Be You.” The free paper is available in boxes around downtown Knoxville.
We conducted most of the interview via email with a follow-up lunch at a cool restaurant called 501 Arthur, which is also the address of the place. At Storm’s recommendation, we ordered the Turkey Dino and Fire Bird sandwiches and took half of each. The jalapeño fire sauce on the latter is outstanding.
Storm let me borrow a screener DVD of the documentary he produced, “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.” The film was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival last year. It highlights the outlaw relatives of Jesco White, who gained some notoriety in a 1991 PBS documentary called “Dancing Outlaw.” The despicable characters abuse and resell prescription medicines while taking advantage of disability benefits. During the first half of the movie, I was able to laugh at the Whites. By the end, I just felt uneasy. That’s not a slam. I believe it’s the intended effect.
