Hijinks Dry Skinks

A dead chipmunk ruined my swim on Friday afternoon. Usually I pluck carcasses from the pool before I get in the water. Unfortunately I was swimming toward the wall when I looked down and spotted the critter on the bottom of the deep end. It was the first casualty of the year.

There is some good news to report. Earlier this week I found two skinks that were still alive in the skimmer. It was reminiscent of the toads I saved last year. I am a fan of most reptiles and was happy to set these two youngsters free. For years I have thought that the lizards living under my deck were Blue-tailed Skinks, mainly because of their blue tails. Blue-tailed Skinks are found in Australia, not Tennessee. The inhabitants of my back yard are Five-lined Skinks. Their tails are blue when they are young.

they’re still nasty- whatever you call them. baby snakes with feet. and all toads/frogs are evil. I had an unfortunate episode over 30 years ago that still haunts me. A frog crawled up the pant leg of my straight leg Lee jeans while picking blackberries. I have been scarred since and my family continues to tease and taunt me about them.
