The Census wanted to know how many people were living in my household on April 1, 2010. To provide an accurate count, I waited until as late as possible yesterday to mail my form. Surprisingly, the Post Office did not stay open until midnight like they do on April 15 for income tax forms. We dropped ours in the box at the Weisgarber facility just before the last pickup at 7:00 p.m. Fortunately we both survived past midnight, meaning that our form remained correct.
My morbid sense of humor played out a scenario as we left the post office and I saw a giant 18-wheeler filled with mail barreling down scenic Middlebrook Pike. I imagined it as a headline in The Onion: Local Couple Run Over by Truck Carrying Their Census Form, Thereby Invalidating It.
